One Familiar Interface

A shared design system · Proposed by Real Estate · Presentation concept — not a decision
01

The stakes

Why we are here

Six teams are building the next generation of tools. Each one will make design choices — with or without a shared system.

The risk

Six teams, six systems — or one. If each group designs on its own, nothing matches, and every review starts with relearning the screen instead of reading the numbers. And if we don’t choose a system together, the choice gets made for us — by default, by deadline, or by someone outside this room.

1
Without a shared system
Every tool invents its own layout, color, and type. Senior leadership relearns each screen. Inconsistency reads as immaturity — no matter how good the work underneath is.
2
With one shared system
One look, learned once. Reviews focus on the work, not the wrapper. Each team keeps full control of its tools, data, and methods.
3
What this is not
We are not designing your tool. Only how your tool looks to senior leadership.
02

The proposal

One shared base

Real Estate offers its design system as the starting point — the same system its own tools already use.

It is a starting point, not a mandate. It is easy to modify, and other proposals are welcome. What matters is that we end with one system we all build from.

The shared base covers
  • Color, type, spacing, and layout tokens
  • Core components — tables, KPI tiles, badges, buttons
  • Status and evidence patterns
  • A default skin every team starts from
Always yours
  • Your data and your models
  • Your workflow and your methods
  • Your priorities and your judgment
  • Your choice of skin on the shared base

Make it yours

Skins on one shared base

One system does not mean one look. Skins are a feature of the shared base — not a fork of it.

Every team starts from the default skin. Prefer a different palette, or dark mode? Pick it — colors change, nothing else moves. The tokens, components, and structure underneath stay identical, so leadership learns the interface once and recognizes it everywhere. Try it on the live example below.

Ten looks, one set of tokens. Skins swap color only — structure, type, and components are untouched. Blueprint is the rudbek plate as a theme; all themes shown are first passes — the working group refines them.

The ask

No decision today

One name from each group. That is the whole ask.

Each investment group names one representative to work with the design team. Together they pressure-test the base, refine what needs refining, and agree the final system — one we can all build from. As a sample of what that base makes possible, each group below carries an identity drawn from the same drafting table as rudbek’s. Samples only — your group sketches its own.

We are glad to train your team members on the tooling available. Adopting the shared look does not mean building alone.

One system we can all build from — professional, easy to read, easy to follow, and something we are proud to show.
